Bruce Grobbelaar is a former professional footballer from Zimbabwe, who was born on October 6, 1957. He is regarded as one of the greatest African goalkeepers in football history. He began his career at Highlanders F.C. in Zimbabwe before moving to Canada to play for the Vancouver Whitecaps. In 1981, he joined Liverpool F.C. and went on to win six English First Division titles, three FA Cups, and one European Cup during his 13-year spell at the club.
Grobbelaar was known for his unorthodox style of goalkeeping, which included performing acrobatic saves and regularly leaving his goal line to join play. However, his reputation was tarnished in 1994 when he was accused of match-fixing, which led to a lengthy legal battle. He was eventually cleared of all charges, but his career never fully recovered from the scandal.
After leaving Liverpool, Grobbelaar played for Southampton, Plymouth Argyle, Bury and Oxford United before retiring from professional football in 1999. He then went on to work as a football coach and pundit and was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1997.
